Starting a business has never been easier than it is today. Companies like Google offer a number of free tools that have data that can be used to create a business that offers products and services people are looking for.
Here are the top free Google tools that offer data and what they are used for.
Google Keyword Planner
You can use this data to create a business that sells products and services that people are searching for.
In the screenshot below you can see that Google’s Keyword Planner even gives you the estimated cost per click (CPC) if you targeted the keyword on their Google Ads platform. You can use that to prioritize what products to create based on their cost per click value to searchers and Google.
Search Engine Optimization specialists use Google’s Keyword Planner to help businesses connect their products to keywords. That’s why it is better to build a business where you target keywords and search interest from the beginning vs doing it later when it will be much harder.
Use Google Trends to find trending topics in almost any industry. This can help you brainstorm social media campaign ideas based on what is currently trending and where it is trending. In this trending comparison of “makeup brush”, “makeup sponge” and “makeup applicator” you see overall “makeup brush” is searched for the most and had a spike in trending that was larger than the other topics.
However in certain areas like California, Florida and Texas a particular type of makeup applicator called “silicone makeup applicator” is growing in the search trends. This would be a great time to create a product targeting the term in those regions.
Google Search Console
Connect Google Search Console to your website to gain data and insight into what keywords are driving traffic to your website from organic search. You can no longer get this data in Google Analytics so getting it from Google Search Console is important. The screenshot below shows that the term “Google Search Functions” is driving traffic to our website because we currently rank number one for that search term because of an article we wrote. However we don’t have a course or any products covering the topic.
We will now create a course covering the topic so people can learn more about it since the interest is so high.
Use Google Analytics to find out what type of content people love on your site. Many bloggers have created big business and six figure incomes by first having a blog and then creating products based on data they got from their Google Analytics reports. In the screenshot example for our learning platform we can see that our “How to Start a Business Course” is the top visited course page in the last week or so. So we will focus on creating more courses and content targeting this topic.
You Got Data from Google Now What?
Once you get an idea of what people want that aligns with what you can do to serve that need then follow these steps.
Write a Business Plan
Business plans are essential for the success and growth of a business. Start with a simple ten slide outline and go from there.
Trademark Your Brand
Do a free trademark search at USTPO.gov to see if your brand name is not trademarked. If it is not then use a service like LegalZoom.com to file for the trademark. This is important to protect your brand and business from competitors and to make it possible to enforce any copyright infringements.
Build an App or Website
Use this to promote your business. You also need a live website to show first use of your brand when you are going through the trademark process.
