Our latest charity of the month is an organisation that has been helping new businesses and entrepreneurs since 1542. Congratulations to the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity.

What is the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity?

Based in Leicester, UK, the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity (STWLC) was founded by Sir Thomas White in 1542. White was an English cloth merchant and was the founder of of St John’s College, Oxford.

The STWLC was set up to provide interest-free loans to entrepreneurs and businesses based in Leicestershire and Rutland.

How is the Sir Thomas White Loan Charity helping people?

In order to help new businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs, the STWLC offers loans of up to £20,000 for business and £10,000 for education.

These loans are interest-free for 9 years and become repayable after 3 years through equal instalments.

There are conditions that you will need to meet in order to be eligible to get an interest free loan from the STWLC, two of which are that you must be a resident in Leicestershire or Rutland and you must be over 18 and under 35 years of age.

Some of the many success stories that have come from the good work of  the STWLC have become ambassadors for the charity, two of which are Skytribe Dance Studio and 4×4 Vehicle Hire.

Skytribe Dance Studio

Skytribe offers dance lessons to anyone aged 16 or over, regardless of their ability or fitness levels. The studio offers classes in modern jazz, contemporary, ‘Mash It Up, and commercial. Skytribe Dance Studio was able to grow as a business after a loan from the STWLC in September 2017.

4×4 Vehicle Hire

4×4 Vehicle Hire offers luxury self-drive rental for 4×4 vehicles. Customers are able to rent a vehicle from 1-28 days. 4×4 Vehicle Hire was helped to expand after taking a loan from the STWLC in November 2016.
