Our latest Charity of the Month is a microfinance organisation that offers affordable loans to companies and entrepreneurs that have been turned down by other lenders.
Its aim is to provide opportunities to startups and solopreneurs that might otherwise have not been able to turn their business ideas into a reality.
We explain all the wonderful things Purple Shoots is doing to help aspiring entrepreneurs.
Purple Shoots provides support to give businesses a hand up
Purple Shoots helps people to secure the support they need to start and develop a business.
It does this in two ways: financial help and community forums.
Firstly, the charity provides small business loans at “fair rates.”
The organisation states that the application process is simple — you just have to submit some simple forms (they can get help with these from Purple Shoots) and have a meeting with the organisation.
Secondly, Purple Shoots creates self-reliant groups (SRGs).
They’re a place where entrepreneurs can come together and exchange ideas, making them part of a business community and helping them to develop their company.
Purple Shoots wants to help Britain’s “hidden entrepreneurs”
Almost every new business fails and it’s not because they have bad ideas.
Most startups don’t last because they lack the funding to put their ideas into practice before they’re in a stable position, one that’s generating a consistent revenue stream.
Purple Shoot’s aim is to help Britain’s “hidden entrepreneurs” and “to change things for people who are disadvantaged by circumstances, health or disability.”
The charity also has a commitment to sustainability and fulfills 9 of the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals through its work:
- No Poverty
- Zero Hunger
- Good Health and Well-being
- Gender Equality
- Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- Reduced Inequalities
- Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
How can I help Purple Shoots achieve its goals?

This means that it needs support from donors to be able to achieve its goals of giving people the community and financial support they require to start a business.
