Our latest Charity of the Month profile highlights an organisation dedicated to supporting the people of Haiti — The Andrew Grene Foundation — through education, loans and building projects. In particular, it aims to help children and small business owners in Haiti.

The charity runs a school that provides full time to over 250 students and offers microfinance loans to more than 1,600 Haitian women.

We explain the great work being carried out by The Andrew Grene Foundation.

Andrew Grene Foundation promotes education & microfinance

The Andrew Grene Foundation was set up to celebrate the life and work of Andrew Grene, a dual Irish-American citizen who lost his life during the Haiti earthquake of 2010.

Grene worked for the United Nations, helping to bring peace and provide support to some of the world’s most dangerous and destitute areas.

The foundation of his namesake was started by Andrew’s twin brother, Gregory, and a childhood friend, Timothy Perutz, to continue his life long work through the promotion of education and microfinance in Haiti.

The AGF aims to give Haitians the resources to be self-sustaining

The Andrew Grene Foundation (AGF) describes its mission as being to “give the people of Haiti the resources to develop themselves through education and microfinance”.

The charity uses two projects to deliver on its mission:

  • Education: The Andrew Grene High School offers full-time education to more than 250 students aged 11-19 in Cité Soleil (an very impoverished area of Haiti)
  • Microfinance: TAGF partners with Fonkoze Microfinance to run a scheme providing loans to help Haitians (many of whom are women) grow their small businesses

You can find out more about the two projects run by The Andrew Grene Foundation by visiting the charity’s What We Do page.

How can I help The Andrew Grene Foundation?

The Andrew Grene Foundation explains itself that it “relies on the support of all our fundraisers and sponsors” to be able to help the people of Haiti to become self-sustaining.

There are key ways you can show your support for the work being done by this great charity:

  • Donate
  • Sponsor
  • Fundraise

The Andrew Grene Foundation is helping so many people in Haiti. You and/or your organisation can help it to continue doing so by making a donation, sponsoring a student or commencing fundraising for the charity today.
